He has a master’s in business administration from the University of California Irvine and a bachelor’s degree from Brown University. Light is married to Register reporter Teri Sforza, who was a reporter at The San Diego Union before its 1992 merger with the Tribune. “You folks down there made a good choice.” We’ll miss his good thinking and energy, but he can’t help but carry a piece of us with him in his role as editor in San Diego. “He has helped make us immeasurably better. “He’s got good ideas, a strong sense of fairness and a love of the community,” Brusic said. Ken Brusic, executive editor and head of content at the Register since 2002, called Light “one of the smartest people I know.” “That’s completely unchanged in San Diego.” “The real crux of what we do is providing this value in people’s lives through local information,” he said. He most recently held the title of vice president of interactive and oversaw the Register’s Web sites, which he said doubled in traffic and audience in the past two years.Īt the Union-Tribune, he will be vice president and editor. Light has been a journalist for 28 years and worked at the Register and its parent company, Freedom Communications, since 1993. The San Diego Union-Tribune named Jeff Light as its top editor yesterday, choosing an experienced journalist from The Orange County Register who is known for pushing newspapers toward online innovation.
